The nudie cutie patootie is a parrot with Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease. The virus at the heart of the disease attacks the feather follicles, beaks and claws of affected parrots. Over time, the disease causes progressive feather loss and malformation of the beak and claws.
All of that sounds like bad news, but Rhea doesn’t let it slow her down. Instead of hiding her bare body, the Boston-based bird is a proud Instagram spokesbird for fellow parrots suffering from the disease.
She flaps, she chirps, she dances, she talks, she does all the things feathered parrots do without missing a beat. Rhea’s optimistic attitude, tiny pink body and precious smile have earned her over 23,500 followers, who often celebrate the bird for stepping out without clothes on.
